Lauren Austin is an associate in the Hodgson Russ State & Local Tax (SALT) Practice. She focuses on helping businesses navigate complex state and local tax issues with clarity and practical judgment, advising and representing clients in multistate tax controversies, including audits, administrative appeals, and litigation. Lauren supports clients as they assess tax exposure, respond to information requests, and advance well-supported positions before state taxing authorities.

Prior to joining Hodgson Russ, Lauren worked at a boutique state tax firm where she advised clients on a variety of state and local tax matters, including multistate litigation, audit defense, and tax policy. She also worked at a global accounting firm, where she performed state and local tax and payroll tax due diligence for national and global companies, performed income and sales tax research, and assisted with notice responses.

    New York's 2026-27 Budget Bill (the “Budget Bill”) amends the Tax Law and various other statutes through a series of Parts (here, A through JJ). The Budget Bill touches a range of personal and business tax provisions, extends several expiring credits and temporary rate increases, introduces new compliance and enforcement mechanisms, and adds a significant new levy on certain New York City real property – the “Pied-à-terre Tax.”
